Sent email to Paper.LI yesterday (as requested) No Secrets: plain + simple, the news service quality algorithms need improvement
I respect the privacy of email, so I will not disclose any of my remarks here. Since I haven’t gotten any response yet, I will, however, explicate some of my main points:

the quality of the news selection algorithms is quite low — there is really no significantly new information being presented

the ranking algorithms are likewise quite poor — primarily keywords, popular twitter users and mainstream media
As a result, the chances of seeing something that you may have otherwise missed are very low — truly a “slim chance“. Instead, you will primarily find what you already know about (besides perhaps a couple high cost ppc keyword rich headlines). And that is the whole point for SmallRivers: The Paper.LI results (an the “as is” state) are simply a content farm, basically acting as an arbitrage website for Google’s adwords / adsense / ppc keyword + banner ads.
In other words, if you like reading top dollar Google adwords advertisements, then Paper.LI is right for you! 
Otherwise, it’s yesterday’s cheesecloth.
